PostPost by: LaikaTheDog » Sun Nov 27, 2016 2:49 pm

just thought I would post a pic of my newly installed wing mirror.

I put it in mods as it is actually one I had left over from another resto... but I like it better on my lotus !

That is very nice. We are thinking about adding a side mirror to our Elan but am not fond of the typical "bullet" mirrors. Yours looks great. Can you post a picture from further away so I can see how it looks overall?

And, if you don't mind my asking - what model mirror is it and where did you get it? (It reminds me of the Alfa Romeo mirror from that era, except without the Alfa logo)

Laika,

How did you attach the mirror?

Was it necessary to remove the door frame and then drill for a nut and bolt and spread the load with a washer....or did you use some other fixing?

I had bullet mirrors on my +2...
I didn't like them particularly either.....
I went for something similar to the ones in the first post.....
theyre a Porsche 356/Durant mirror from the 60's

yes. I drilled holes and used a flat crosshead bolt with big slightly dished (hit with a hammer) washers.

Here is another option if you don't want to drill a hole in the bodywork.
