Tillett B5 seat in an Elan

PostPost by: Bits » Mon Sep 30, 2019 8:23 pm

Hi,
Has anyone put a Tillett B5 carbon seat into an Elan please?
As I am 6' 4" I need all the headroom I can get in my 1970 S4 FHC.

A seat to roof dim would be great and runner used, even a photo?

Regards,

Mark.

Hi Mark

Have you considered Elise/Exige seats?

I?m running leather Exige seats in my S4 and at 6?1? find it really comfortable

Hi Gavin,

Yes. I have bought these for road use and I can fit my wrist between the roof and the top of my head (without a roof liner).

The tillett would be for track days and helmet use - tho I think the seat has now been sold on SELOC. :( :(

Regards,

Mark.

Mark

I have a Tillett B2 (I think) in my competition car (which is still in build) which sits really low in the car.

Great for competition but not so sure it would be good in normal use because it can be tricky to get into. Not a problem for my car because I have a side intrusion bar which aligns with the seat. If you search on an article ?my race project - the proof? there should be a few snaps to give you a feel.

If you do follow this route, you will need to make up or adapt a subframe and you will need to ensure that the back of your helmet stays the right side of the rear hoop.

Hope it helps.

Mark,

I am also 6' 4" with an S4 FHC. When I started my restoration the first job was to see if I could make the car fit me. I took the springs out of the base of the seat, so that I am sitting on the padding directly onto the floor of the car. I also had the headlining moved as close to the roof as the trimmer was able to do. I fit the car, but as the restoration is not complete I cannot comment on comfort when driving.

hope this helps,

Picked up the seat on my way back from holiday.
Its a very comfortable seat - even better than the elise probax seats.
Just got to see how to fit them now as the elise sliders wont fit. Will brobably have to get the correct ones for the seat!
It has some clear 3M protective tape on the seat sides which is crinkled along the edge. May try and remove it if it is seen when fitted.

I realize this is an old post but I'm about to start using my S4 FHC more frequently and like the idea of installing a B5 in my car. Any thoughts/tips would be quite helpful!

In the end I stuck with the original elan seats.
I sold the Tillet and found the Elise seats too hard. I'm 63 years old!!

I use tillet style seats designed for caterhams. I took them without "headrests" because of my home made rollbar.
The are very comfortable even on long runs.
But it is more trouble to get in and out because of the higher sides.
Especially when hood is on or in a fhc.

Good to see a proper handbrake.
Does it work?

Yes, handbrake works well. I took it from a Volkswagen Touran from scrapeyard, Handbrake cable is homestyle.

I may be seeing Steve Tillett on Wednesday. I’ll see what he recommends. He’s been trialling a seat in an Emira !

Im 6’4 and have b4f fitted to my 26R, fabulous seat but definitely for competition use only as getting in with cage etc is an acrobatic feat!
I did lower rear floor pan 1” to allow enough head room with helmet and roll cage.
Had to machine up side mounts.
