Front seat alternatives

PostPost by: hysteric » Mon Dec 13, 2021 10:06 pm

Evening all… appreciate this is a much discussed point but just wondering what alternatives people are using for front seats?

I’ve read on another thread mk1 mx5 seats are an option?

Wow! Just wow. That looks so good. Do you know if they were mk1 or mk2 mx5?

Assume the fit is good and you can still get into the back seat?

These would be late mk1/early mk2 seats, all the other MX5 seats are of the "tombstone" design.

They are very comfortable and I am in the process of fitting a pair in my early Jaguar E-type which has much more uncomfortable seats than my Elan.

Good luck

As far as I'm aware Mk1 seats. The seat actually gives a bit more room in the back as they quite a bit thinner than the original ones.

Internals look amazing. A very nice job.
Can I ask how much the whole upholstery cost ?

Thanks

Hi Gino
Without going through the old invoices, I'll have to go with a ballpark amount.
This includes, new, Headlining, rear shelf, under dash moldings, steering column molding, heated MX5 seat's, carpets, Door cards, dashboard with modifications, fiberglass centre console.
NOT including fitting.
£7500 ish
To put it in perspective, it's cheaper than the body and paint work!!!
Tony.

Hello all,
I see this post pretty much talking about the Miata seats fitting in a Plus 2. Can anyone confirm that they actually fit in a two seater Elan? I have been having difficulty finding width dimensions for the Miata seats and the available space on the two seater Elan is only about 19 inches wide. If you have fitted them to the Elan, what do you do about mounting the slider mechanism?

Thanks much,
Eric

I have some Elise S1 seats which I'm planning to fit. They are very light (7kg iirc) but non adjustable, and quite firm. I'm planning to run them tipped slightly further back than in the Elise, which I find a bit upright.

I’m running exige seats and I find them really comfy.
One day I'll actually finish - completely - one day....
