This engine came out of an S4 Elan. It was running when it was in the car and still turns freely. It was removed to convert the car to Zetec, not because there was any problem with the engine (the Elan was not my car). There are no carbs with the car, it is as seen in the photos. The casting number is 681F 6016 and it is an ‘L’ block with 6 bolt crank. I bought the engine for a project, plans have now changed so it is no longer needed. I paid £3k for it and that is the price. Engine is in the UK. PM for details.

What is the engine number stamped into the block above the engine mounting on the carburettor side?

This will help identify the engine type, i.e. standard, S/E, high compression.

Hi Andy
I will have to get back to you on the engine number. My impression is that this came out of a standard S4 (not SE) and so was originally a 105bhp engine. I think the cam cover was originally black (I believe SE had red).
