I don't know about early Elans but if you look under the Sill on an Elan Sprint mid way between front and back wheel there is a moulded section. The moulded section fits into the "U" plate on the original Sprint Jack

My Sprint came with a blue scissors jack but with the U plate. I never dare to lift the car from anywhere built of fibreglass.. I use the suspension A frame at the read and central cross member at the front... The U is great for holing a bit of wood to provide a soft surface!

I have tried the original jack once to see if it works in an emergency to change a wheel and it does. But you need to be sure the Lattice bonded inside the sill is in very very good condition.
To be honest i have never tried it again as i am too frightened
I put a plank along the underside of the sill between front and back wheel and use scissor jack. The plank runs the full length of the sill.
I keep the original jack just to say i have one and to polish now and then 8)
