Which model Isuzu gearbox is this adaptor you are making for?....Some have starter on the right , some left, clutch fork on the right.
I think we need to know which model gearbox or from which model Isuzu?

There are a number of threads on this subject but one states

>From doing a little research the Isuzu five speed is a MSG/MUA 5 speed
manual transmission. This transmission was used in a variety of cars. It

was used in:
1994 - 1996 Honda Passport 4wd
1989 - 1994 Isuzu Amigo
1981 - 1985 Isuzu I-Mark
1983 - 1990 Isuzu Impulse
1981 - 1997 Isuzu Pick-up
1991 - 1997 Isuzu Rodeo 4wd
1984 - 1997 Isuzu Trooper
1981 - 1986 Chevrolet Chevette Diesel
1979 - 1982 Chevrolet Luv Diesel
1981 - 1986 Pontiac T1000 Diesel

I have two of the gearboxes in my shop as I was going to do this years ago but was not able to make it happen at that time. Need to do a little research to see what is needed to make this happen. Then maybe if enough interest
more invloved will make a solid project.

Beware! The MSG series and MUA series transmissions are not the same transmission family. The MUA is a heavier duty transmission and likely will not fit in an Elan. I have a couple of ratio sets listed for the MSG.

MSG5E:
1st: 3.785
2nd: 2.171
3rd: 1.413
4th: 1.000
5th: 0.855

MSG5K
1st: 4.122
2nd: 2.493
3rd: 1.504
4th: 1.000
5th: 0.855

The 4WD versions of the transmission are different too. The back half incorporates the transfer case gears and the gearshift location is different also.

Frank,
Does your adapter plate include the input shaft tube?

Jerry,

I was trying to remember the other day how I did the input shaft tube. If memory serves me (and that's suspect) I pressed it out of the original bearing cover and pressed it into the adapter plate which replaces the front bearing cover.

As for what Isuzu transmission to use, there are a few that will work. And maybe more than just this.

The Isuzu Impulse (rear wheel drive not the later front wheel drive) Turbo and non turbo (but they have different ratios), the I-pup Pickup (not Four wheel drive) (and be careful because I believe the diesel is a 4 speed not a 5 speed), the Gemini, and others.

An easy way to look and determine if it's one that may work is will have the black bracket just in front of the shifter. This picture is of my installation with the Isuzu bellhousing machined off, the adapter plate installed, and using the Lotus/English Ford bellhousing from my original 4 speed.

My trans came from a Impulse Turbo because I liked the ratios. I had to remove the shifter because it located the shifter way too far to the rear and replace it with a shifte from a pick up truck.
