Faired-in (26R type) headlights & HID conversion

PostPost by: elj221c » Tue Apr 28, 2009 9:33 am

I found this box and its contents in the car when I was moving it round last weekend. As there is no engine in the car at the moment I couldn't measure the headlamp height but a rough guide would be two feet to the top of the bezel. My car is somewhat lower than normal, though.
Gerry, any update from the MOT man?

Ahh, the memories, the same lens as I had in my Lotus Esprit. Shortly after I purchased her I ordered a set of four Cibie headlights. They had worked so well in my Audi Coupe GT and they were wonderful in my Esprit as well.

IMHO - I would not expect too much from a faired in set up. I used on the s2, pretty pitiful when I turned the lights on in the garage , The few times I snuck the car out for a night time raid i was glad the roads had street lights. For the street the 7" set up is better , if you need, want a pile of light out of a historically correct looking piece I would point you to the Cibie Biode , cibie H4 or my current favorite the Marchal Ampilux . Marchal has seperate reflectors for the High and low beams , they are effectivley 2 lamps in on and you can load them up with 2 100 watt bulbs if that's you thing or any combo in between. plus you can aim both -

I've been trying to buy a pair of Cibie Biodes for my Escort for a while George...the last pair, secondhand and needing the reflectors re-silvering, fetched ?550 on eBay!! Makes S1 steering wheels look like a bargain.

But one day.....

Mark sent you a PM on Biodes. Another strategy is to buy singles to make a pair the singles will trade at a fraction of the cost of a pair.
