Dash Template (S2)

PostPost by: lsdweb » Thu Sep 16, 2010 3:41 pm

Hi All

I'm starting to put my Series 2 back together and need to make a dash - I have an original which is close enough to use for the overall shape but it's hopeless for the dash layout as it's pretty unique! Can anybody help me with a template, either in hard copy or CAD format? I'm looking for a full width dash with glove compartment and radio slot if possible.

The car's going to be a road legal hillclimb car - built on a 26R chassis and shell.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Wyn,

I have an S2 that has a new dash, and perhaps I could help. But first question is RHD or LHD? They are mirror images AFAIK but . . .

BTW mine is RHD.

Thanks Jim - RHD. I'm in West Wales (UK) by the way.

Glad to help if I can. Here's a full width pic of my dash. I'm not CAD-savvy, but if there's anything I can provide, just let me know. I'd be happy to pull the steering wheel if you need and/or provide a panoramic stiched set of photos.

BTW I've been informed that the RHD/LHD dashes are NOT mirror images, though the difference is very slight and they can work as such.

Just don't want to perpetuate any incorrect folk wisdom.

Hi Wyn
I may be stating the obvious, but the they available new from the usual suspects. I bought one from Paul Matty last year, and it's a stunning bit of kit. Price was around ?200 I seem to remember, maybe a little less, and the finish and quality of work is something that I couldn't replicate, even spending many many hours on it.

It's the bit you look at all the time when driving...do you want a home-made plank sitting in front of you?! Appologies if you're a keen joiner / piano re-finisher!

If interested I have a RHD dash with no veneer on it. I was going to use it as a template to make a new dash for my newly acquired S2. I could put it in CAD format. I have SolidWorks at work and could replicate in both a 3D model and drawing if interested. May take me a while to finish becuase of my work load, but I'm happy to do it if interested.

Thanks all

I'm not sure what to do yet! I'm starting to build the looms so I'd better get thinking about the dash soon!

Thanks for him in advance,

No response...
Thinking back on my message, I surely made a mistake. The chap need more an Elan S3 or S4 drawing or CAD template, with all major gauges & buttons...
If that helps...... Thx,
Christian.

Ok, if not the CAD file, how about the dimensions?
