Unfortunately they look like the rare and expensive Sparto ones Richard.

They do pop up on Ebay from time to time, but you will need to be sitting down when you look at the price.

Good luck with your quest

I have that type on both the 69 S4 and the 72 Sprint- Shirley these must have been used on loads of mass-produced cars at that time?

As a group, we're not very good at recording where all these bits and pieces were sourced from are we?

Sorry, my post is of no help (not for the first time).

I've done a brief web search and the unit fitted to the Austin Maxi looks promising; I've sent a grovelling e-mail to the owners club.

It is surprising how few cars seem to have been fitted with repeater lights at that (pre-legislation) time, even "posh" ones.

Hi

The nearest I've managed to find for my restoration is the Lucas L734 which are easily available and quite cheap. Its the same size but the chrome bezel is very slightly different.

There are some on ebay at present at

Pete, things like the repeater lamps used on later Elans were often used as trailer side lights....they were cheap and nasty and not used by any other car manufacturer that I know of.

That ultra rare 26R dashboard oil warning lamp for example.....a side marker lamp for a caravan (but fitted with a red / white lens)!

Didn't we find that the ash-tray came from the back seat of an Austin Westminster- or something like that? !!

Yes, the Lucas ones were common and fitted to lots of "period" cars. They can be found with black or silver baseplates but are not correct of course.

For anyone not aware I'm pretty sure the S4 (DHC) dash mounted interior lamp is the same Sparto unit but with a clear lens of course

Hi Richard

I have no Sprints, these side Ford marker lamps are from 7004090078E. Its a domestic RHD SE that I purchased in Rhode Island back in February 1993, I don't think they were swapped out as they don't appear to be U.S. made, there is no SAE cast into the lens. I think that Lotus bought what was available for the lowest price and this is what has driven my desire that original is not always that important with anything that was built by lotus, I guess original comes down to what day of the week it was built and to guess that it was the week or day seems stretching things a bit.

I found a Lucas L734 in the S3 SE but I don't think its from that Elan, That body has no holes drilled or filled for it, I don't know the source for it May be for 36/6292 as I found some other parts from it stored in it.

I found the other L734 yesterday, I just wish I could find the E-brake ( parking brake ) cable now that I have been looking for the last couple days, just one big treasure hunt I guess. :D

Blimey! that was lucky. I was just about to bin them thinking they aresome after market replacement  and ask when the L734 to Sparto changeover was.

Now it looks like I need one lense for a light I have newer seen before - anyone have any details of the light in the picture?

Simon

'Allo Simon,

I've just bought 45/6926. I have a pair of new Carello lamps and hopefully the car will come with the original set, if you get really stuck I can loan you a lense, but the lamps are made from unobtainium.

Do you still have the original inertia real seat belts in your car?

Cheerio,

Rob

Rob, I thought that the Carellos were only used on the first couple of months production of the S/E....maybe upto Oct / Nov 66. I've only seen them on Tim Mees' S3 S/E Coupe, which was the first S3 S/E, and he also thought they were fitted to very few cars, until Lucus could be persuaded to provide similar items for half the price!

Does your April '67 car have them then??!!
