Frame - Backbone Blanket

Has anyone had sucess findind a modern replacement for the fiber blanket (sponge) that is fitted to the backbone of the frame? Please advise

I am going to use a piece of non-celular foam which is sold as a camping mat here in the UK (I guess you are supposed to sleep on it). It is waterproof and rot proof, so should be OK.

www.spydercars.co.uk supply neoprene for about ?15 a roll for body to chassis fitting.

Be aware that the Spyder supplied roll of neoprene is not a blanket. The roll is quite long (about 14 feet), but it is narrow (two inches wide). The thickness is 3/16 inch, which should be about right for use as a cover/cushion over the central backbone.

You have to glue it down in strips. I don't see any problem with this approach, and it helps to leave the "driveshaft hole" uncovered. But the Spyder roll is just that - a roll - and not a blanket.

I was at Spyder on Tuesday, they can no longer source the Neoprene, Andy is using the original hessian stuff, soaked in Waxoyl now, but he said my camping mat closed cell foam was a good idea!
