Does anyone have a correct diameter measurement for the center console shifter hole? Have an undrilled repro, trying to get it right the first time.

a new rubber shifter grommet boot will show you the right size, assuming you're going to install one.

3 5/16". :) The boot attaches to a plate which is screwed to the frame. The hole through the console is larger, about 3 1/2" I think.

Chris,
where did this diagram come from? Phil Harrison?
I thought you were sourcing an official Lotus shop manual diagram, but rather this is a reproduction from a fellow "respected" LE.net member?

That's correct. It was the subject of a thread here which I think was offered by Phil and I just printed the diagram. I was able to purchase the plate from RD but currently I don't see it listed in his online catalog.
Chris :)

Greg
After thinking about it, the hole through the console would be smaller than the 3 5/16" hole in the plate so
2 7/8" sounds about right. :)

Another reason why I don't put the hole in new Consoles!!! That's in addition to people installing different transmissions.

Today I removed my sizzle type gearstick trying to resolve the gear selection problem I have , anyway i also have a newer anti sizzle type which I thought I would try. I found it needed a larger hole to clear the body so gave up on that idea.

My point is the hole size might be different for the two gear stick types

Steve,

I didn't know there two types of anti sizzle gear lever. I am currently struggling with gear levers. When my body was refurbished by SMS the gear stick aperture was badly damaged with a large ragged hole, and the console was broken. SMS repaired the damage by filling the hole completely, so I don't even know what size the hole in the fibre glass should be. Also, there was no metal plate for the gaiter to fit into nor were there any washers either side of the metalistic bush in the anti sizzle gear lever. I foolishly assumed that what I took apart was correct. Only when reading a post from someone asking about gearstick washer dimensions (I thought what washers?) did I go and look in the parts book and service manual. What a dummy!

Could you please describe the differences between the two anti sizzle gear levers.

Richard Hawkins
