Windshield question

PostPost by: Cymru » Tue Mar 13, 2018 12:47 am

Hi all,

Restoring and collecting parts for my 69 plus 2.

I know some early cars had the windshield held in with the rubber surround while others were bonded.

Is there an easy way to tell is my windshield is bonded or will require the rubber surround?

When I bought the car the glass was already out and the windshield opening was very clean showing no reside of prior bonding.

Any thoughts?

Many thanks,

Hi,

If it?s a ?69 +2 I suspect it will have the rubber surround. I think they moved to bonded screens in 1970 but anything is possible!

I am fairly certain that your car would not have had a bonded screen at that age so long as the shell matches the age.

As far as I am aware bonded screens came in with the 130 S.

I have a 1970 Plus 2 S and it has a rubber held screen

Easy way to tell is, if it's a bonded screen, there isn't a lip for the rubber to go over along the bottom of the aperture, it's moulded into more of a ledge. If it's a rubbered in screen, the lip is the same along the bottom as it is up the sides & across the top.
