Hi, Does anybody have a source for bottom dash trim on S1? Or something else that is similar ?

Hello,

I asked Bob Herzog (Zog) and he told me that this can be replaced by a proprietary MG TF type part.

I have yet to pin-point it...perhaps someone else has some ideas?

I have made a solution using 1/16 thick 1/2 inch aluminum angle. I clamp one leg to a milling machine table and using a slitting saw cut the first leg to the thickness of the dash plywood. Then clamp the trimmed leg to the table and cut the other leg off, leaving just enough to cover the face edge of the dash. Round the edges with a file and polish and it looks pretty good. The aluminum is soft enough to bend, using a socket to form the radius. I attached mine with silicone adhesive but you could use screws or some other adhesive. Looks a little rough in the close up pictures but some polish would freshen it up and it really looks fine from the drivers eyes. Gary

A friend of mine gave me a roll of dash trim from his MG TD restoration project. He had paid $30 for it 30 years ago and was not going to use it. So I have been using it and it looks pretty good.

I just went on the Moss motors web site and the roll now costs $300! Yow!

Yes, Bob, I thought the same when I was looking for a source. Having owned a TC the trim was a natural till I discovered the current cost. We need a spy inside of Moss purchasing. I believe Mr Little used a common house hold tile floor finisher that he cut down. Don't know how to get to it but it was covered somewhere in the archives.

I?m amazed no one can find the supplier for the Moss Motorsports trim (even though it is the incorrect trim, Moss states ?chrome brass? and the Lotus OEM is plastic with a silver foil). We have all been looking for years for this trim.

I wonder if it can be reproduced by a custom plastics company who will do small runs? I?m going to contact a company that does this and send them a sample to match. The small piece of OEM trim I have is silver in color (although because of aging it has a slight gold tint to it). Can anyone else confirm the color?

Glen, let me know what you find out. My pieces look like yours, I think age has tinted the plastic cover?

Sue Miller said she would look for source to have made, but doesn't have a sample to start with.

This is a useful lead.

I would be interested in buying a length of repro dash finisher if Sue Miller does take up the challenge.

It might make sense to associate some of the dashboard manufacturers to the idea (Prestige Autowood for example).

The Moss trim, though not correct, would look the part and be more durable than plastic if we could only find it at a reasonable price.
