Heater windscreen vent colour

PostPost by: Bigbaldybloke » Tue Sep 18, 2018 1:56 pm

Help, just refitting the interior and dashboard, my vent covers on top of the dashboard we?re missing, I?ve bought some secondhand replacements that have been painted poorly so need re painting. What type of paint should they be on a very early plus 2 with black interior. Should they be gloss, satin, wrinkle finish or something else?

Probably black crackle or matt finish, you do not want reflections off that in the windscreen, confusing your vision.

Thanks, I was afraid it would be wrinkle finish. The last two cans I got from a local supplier erupted behind the spray nozzle the first time I pressed the nozzle, luckily I was outside and had a large cloth to hand to smother the can with, still took days to get it off my hands though! I was prepared the second time but it still erupted and dumped all its contents, but at least my dustbin has a nice wrinkle finish inside it where I dumped the can in a hurry! Different make now ordered online, hopefully this one will work.
Originally I only wanted to respray the ash tray

Yes, satin / matt black, very light wrinkle finish.

Photo was tricky, garage light and light from door on windscreen, hopefully shows finish ok.

I have used both red and black, VHT Wrinkle Plus, its ok for high temperature and I never had any problems. :D

Interested to know what make you had issues with.

Thanks TeeJay, excellent picture. Can?t remember the make of paint that gave the problem but it was a blue coloured can. I?ve ordered the VHT wrinkle plus paint. Need to read up on application methods and if it needs undercoat.

Put them in the oven just before paint around 30/40 degrees C. Once painted out them back in to develop the wrinkle and dry.
