Elan Sprint and Plus 2 door latch mounting question

I have been trying for years to improve how my Plus 2 doors fit when closed. If I adjust the door latch rings to get the rear edge of the doors nicely flush to the body, the latch mechanisms don?t work well, particularly from the inside. My mounting holes in the door fibreglass are in bad condition, allowing the latches to move if the door is fastened tight to the gaskets.

I have attached a couple of pictures I ripped from a current Elan Sprint eBay listing (nice car BTW!). Are the metal plates that appear to mount the door latches stock? Is a similar plate perhaps used in other later Plus 2 models? Looks like a mod that would partially help with my issue, allowing me to drill new mounting holes in the glass and more firmly mount the latch mechanism.

Thanks in advance.

Stu

The "mounting plates" on the Sprint shown in your post are stock. The plates are integral to the window frame as shown below from an S4.

Thanks.

Looks like the Plus 2 may use a different latch anyway. You can see in the picture below my fibreglass door end has an indentation that corresponds to the latch.
