This is a picture of my trunk floor, the lighter colored area is fiberglass without anything on it, but there?s a black coating of something that?s covering most of it.

Correct to assume that that black coating needs to come off before I can do any fiberglass reinforcement repairs?

Thanks!

Yes, clean back to gelcoat, clean with acetone before fresh glassing. My preference is always to use epoxy in place of resin as it gives a stronger bond.

Is the black coating I have typical? Paint or some other material?

When I bonded a new front end on my Plus 2 I also have remove loads of ?crap? from the underside of wings etc. I used a hand scraper with tungsten blade, they are superb for removing surface contaminants, in many ways much better than power tools as it does not produce huge clouds of dust.
