Outside Mirrors

PostPost by: sk178ta » Sat Dec 04, 2004 4:26 pm

I got a couple off e-bay, brand new from mgbreakers. They fitted from the outside in just the place Johan has. Instead of bullet they are the period rectangular with rounded edges, like a TV screen shape. Vision and adjustability are fine, I just can`t remember the brand.

Guys,

Go to http://www.s-v-c.co.uk/ . Then go to mirrors. I bought two of the 6th one down. They advised me they were period for my 73 +2. good value for money. They are worth phoning to have a chat. They are obviously interested in what they do and can give you a lot of period advice. I have bought a lot from them.

Hamish. :)

They look like MG Midget/ MGB wing mirrors.
If they are the same the MG Owners club in the UK do them for ?14.75 each (?10 less).

There is also a plinth available for these mirrors which the Midget used to adjust the angle. Don'tknow if the Elan would need this but it's available if you findthe angle wring

Haver a look at http://www.mgocaccessories.co.uk/acatalog/ and then search for "wing mirrors"

Hi Frank

I also had to angle the mirror as you described and thats also why I chosed a mirror with only one bolt for fastening. So it can be adjusted a little bit more than the mirror itself allow.

On my leftside it?s angled down a little bit more than on the right.

I taped the mirrors in place before I started drilling in my doors.

Good Luck All

I have an original Cobra mirror (metal housing) fitted above and behind the elan badging. Even though the visibility is terrible it really looks good.
I just kkep turning my head to avoid any big SUV:s from eating me alive....

My one problem is that distance keeps me from my Elan. (36/5395)
