PostPost by: MACCA.GLM » Wed Aug 02, 2023 12:02 pm

Hi

I need to fill check my diff for oil but found its a pain in the ass to get to as you all know.Does anyone have any dimensions to cut a hole in the boot for easier access.
I can then fit a plate over it.

Regards

There is a rubber plug covering the access hole to the drive shaft on the side of the transmission tunnel under the carpeting in your Elan. I bought one of those rubber plugs and cut a hole same size as the one at the transmission tunnel. The file name is the part number. RDent and Sue Miller sell them.

I used one of these using a 105mm hole saw to cut the hole cleanly. Just make sure to avoid the rear chassis tubes when cutting the hole. Positioned correctly you can also access the handbrake tree.

Width and height approx so I can bore the hole in the correct place

Hi G,
Like Mike above, I fitted a waterproof access hatch as used in boats.
Used a 100mm holesaw for the job.
I found that the fibreglass was thin and wavy in that area so turned up a 3mm aluminium backplate to hold it flat and prevent distortion of the hatch.
In the picture, a little more to the right would be better for access to the filler plug and handbrake tree, but then I would not have had room for the priming pump (Webers you know)
Four of us in the Lancs Club did them at the same time.
