S3 striker back plate

PostPost by: gjz30075 » Sat Mar 09, 2024 1:41 pm

I noticed on my late S3, the striker's back plate is only held to the body by the four screws of the
striker. I can see, not knowing this, if one removed the striker for repair, the plate would drop down
into the abyss of the rocker, only to be retrieved after much disassembly of other stuff. I plan
to 'enclose' it with some fiberglass but the question is, is this oem?

It's oem. When these cars were built 50 something years ago it wasn't with the restorer in mind, plus they need to be loose for door adjustment.
I would perhaps remove two of the screws and replace them with some temporary long studs so that you can withdraw the striker without the plate disappearing.

Thanks Mike. I realized after posting that the plate needs to 'float' for adjustments. I'll come up
with another 'solution'. Just thinking ahead, just in case :-)
