The Weber/Dellorto Elan (2-seater) is the only one that needs a 'special' engine mounting on the carb side to raise the engine up a bit.
All +2's and Stromberg Elans have the standard Ford (Anglia?) mount on BOTH sides.

Perhaps you have a high one on the carb side ?

Kind regards,

Hi,
When I fitted my engine originally, I had the spacers on the wrong side.
I can't remember which side they should be on off-hand (can check if required), but I seem to recall that the parts manual is incorrect or unclear.
Hope this may help.
Regards,

Nick

Three thoughts

1. Paul Matty lists a different mount for RH side for Webers or strombergs. The stromberg version is listed as using the same part as the LH, whereas the weber is different.

2. The parts catalogue only shows 1 part number qty 2.

3. From the mists of time I recall that one of the mounts is fitted upside down but I can not be sure which and can find no confirmation in the workshop manual.

This subject is on at least three other threads.
Two nearly identical motor mounts, how tough can it be? Well, it turns out there may be two right answers and fourteen wrong ones. Maybe we should take detailed photos of proper installations for permenant postings here.

Hi,
If you have weber carbs you should have two different engine mounts.
Place them back to back and line up the engine side fixing holes and look at them from a side view and you will note that there is one of them with the two holes slighty higher.
The mount with the slightly raised holes, and only this one, should be fitted on the side where the carbs are. LHD or RHD doesn't matter.

Gino,

I thought that only applied to the 2-seater Elan, and that the +2 has the same (std Ford) both sides ?

The +2 has the same engine mounts on both sides, with the spacers being on the exhasut side only.

Check that you have the mounts the right way up!! See Miles Wilkins "Twin Cam" book - page 67.

Are the +2 mounts the same, whether one has Strombergs or Webers?

I can't see there would be any difference inthe mounts. The angle of the intake to the valves is the same, so the only difference would be the bowl on the bottom of the carb which could be bigger than the webber.

When you look at PM and CN web site there appears to be no diffeerence!

the rolfie
Have replaced mounts on my (weber) +2s. Now Engine rocker cover is paralell to rad top and engine bay rear bulkhead top. Now The air box does not touch inner wing. When I got the car the air box touched the inner wing and engine was not parallel to rad. I removed a low engine mount (carb side) and have replaced with a high mount ( carb side).
I would say two different mounts L & R are correct.
You decide
