Speedo angle drive

PostPost by: RobL7/Elan » Wed Jul 23, 2008 3:40 pm

Hi All,

Anybody know where to obtain a new or rebuilt speedometer angle drive for a S2 Elan? Mine has given up the ghost, as a gear in the drive has broken, and I can't fine anyone here to fix the thing. I'm stateside, but one from elsewhere would be OK if I can't find one here. The part # I believe is: Smiths #BG2402/03.

Thanks,

Rob

Call Ken at Dave Bean, he had mine rebuilt for me. I can't recall the price. Dan 70 S4 SE

I got mine here: http://www.victoriabritish.com/ICATALOG ... px?Page=80

Gearbox extention and forks, see item 12
However, I have not had a chance to fit the part though it looks right. maybe Rohan or Gary can jump in here and tell you if a MGA one will work.

Also, do you know what caused it to break? Mine broke due to the speedometer not turning properly, which the cable just translated right to the drive, causing it to bind up and shear off. Just something to think about, so you don't feed a new part to the same beast. Dan 70 S4 SE

Mine failed and I had it rebuilt by S&J sportscars in the uk.

The speedo was the culprit the grease had set hard.

There are a set of useful instuctions on the web posted by a man called rhodes just search google
which explain how to strip the speedo
Drilling out the little rivets is very easy
As always care and patience

I had mine rebuilt by Bob's Speedometer. www.bobsspeedometer. Did a great job.

Agree with comment above, don't feed the beast!!! Mine also broke due to speedometer not turning which I didn't notice until I had the car back together and on the road.
