I've made another video this time showing some more details of my Elan S2 drive chain before it disappears under the body. It's on youtube here:

Thanks, I am enjoying your videos

Drivetrain - Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drivetrain

The drivetrain of a motor vehicle is the group of components that deliver power to the driving wheels. This excludes the engine or motor that generates the power. In contrast, the powertrain is considered to include both the engine or motor and the drivetrain.

Terrific inspiration. I must spend more time in the shop. Thanks for making the effort for the series.

great video, but a technical question. did he err on the cam cover color to brake horsepower? I believe the red cam cover was for the big valve engine AS WELL AS the black one. I thought red was for Elan and black for Europa, but both for the big valve engine? not nit picking, just clarifying.... :)

Ted Red is for Federal Big Valve... UK was black.

Phil, are we sticking specifically to Elan's only with this configuration? i thought the statement was reference to twin cam engines regardless of body. Again, my Elan Sprint has red covers, but my JPS Europa had black covers, thus my question.

My, non big valve, federal lump had a red crinkle finish cam cover with no evidence of a repaint. Albeit it's a plus 2. Was anything truly standardized over the years by Lotus or standardized by various "experts" after the fact? Or, does "standard" just mean that most of a given model/engine were made that way. Not nit picking either, just an observation over time.

I was referring to Train vs. Chain...

Love the demo of the hand brake, the design is nice & simple!

mine I'd like Bud's, red wrinkle paint that looks original. Although in my case a PO did rebuild the head to big-valve spec, or at least that's what I'm told.

UK spec S4 SE (Stromberg carbs, with sprint spec cams as standard) red crackle finish.

To my knowledge,

- All Federal Europa Twincams were big valves.
- All Federal Europa Twincams had black covers.

That's documented somewhere, and I've never seen otherwise unless the owner changed the cover. As making a Europa cover out of an Elan cover requires machining for the accessory pulley, I suspect most stayed black or got painted by their owners if they didn't stay black.
