Not a specific answer to Lou's question I'm afraid but good background on sizing

I like Rohans suggestion of changing to internal hex plug for drain plug if regular use is likely.

Filler plug, 7/16 BS 3/8 W exact
Drain plug, not so easy 13.5mm across flats but my 3/8 BS 5/16 W ( high quality ring spanner ) slightly loose fit.
All plugs in excellent condition.

Only mentioned spanner as I have limited size Whit in both socket and spanners, Whitworth sizes are quite hard to find these days so you may have to settle for what you can find but I would not buy or use an open ended spanner on these plugs. Ring spanners are good in a confined space, available in low and deep offset, short and long series.

Richard, I thought my tongue was firmly in my cheek but apologies for any offence I may have given.
Lotus screwed fittings can be somewhat puzzing at times and a full set of spanners and sockets for every different pattern of thread is useful. I don't understand why it should be that a bolt head should be a different dimension, across flats, than a nut on that bolt (that's the Lotus way in one of two locations). Don't ask me where- I forget!

Thank again for all the info.. I have grinded down a couple of MM spaners and will go that route. I tested them and they are a tight fit.. Plugs are easy to open and will drain and then fill with Red line GL5 75W90 to replace the Shell synthetic in there now...
