I've always used NOS for these and never any problem. I suggest you search amongst the various English Ford specialists and forget the Lotus ones. I shouldn't really let the cat out of the bag here but good sources are often antique Ford specialists like the ones trading parts for 105E Anglias. If you know exactly what you are looking for they are often a gold mine. The Ford part number you need is 105E 7041D.

Small point I forgot to add. The QED pulley does not come with a timing mark indicator. It's easy of course to punch one in but I chose to take mine to my engine machinist together with the original pulley and he machined a semi circular shaped mark into it exactly as per original. I've found the timing mark indicator on the original pulleys to be very accurate so they are usually perfectly OK to reference the timing mark position from.

Thanks.

On inspecting the engine further in prep for pulling the sump, the following bolt is missing. Would anyone know the size and thread count offhand?

If you look closely, you might notice there are no bolts where there should be holding the pan to the front chest - and the ones to the block had little to no tension in them. Small wonder, then, the leak from the front of the pan!

Henry,
I believe it to be 1/4" UNC. 7/16 AF socket fits it.

you may find the threads are stripped in the front chest for the sump bolts which is why they are missing. I have had to helicoil a few in the past

You may not need a new front pulley in that case! Check it when you pull it off and reuse if it's ok - which it's likely to be if the leak has been coming from the pan. Nothing wrong with the OE cast iron pulleys. In fact they are lighter than most aftermarket steel pulleys! Cast iron is less dense than steel.

SENC,

Have you tried your new prop yet?

I ordered a new slip yoke from Kelvedon, fitted it, and could not get the prop back in. Turns out the U of the yoke has a different offset and makes the prop 10mm too long.

To say I'm pissed is an understatement!

If they can't supply a one that fits I will have to have the prop shortened

No, I haven't, but thanks for the heads-up! I'll take measurements in the next day or two to see if I have the same issue - and will join you in yhe pissed camp if I do.

Won't the slip yoke simply slide in the tailshaft 10mm further? It would be something I'd worry about on
a live axle car but both ends are 'fixed' on our cars.

No, the existing yoke has only 5mm fore/aft float between bottoming out on the nose of the tailshaft housing and the diff inpt flange so the new one, physically, will not fit due to the increased offset between the cross joint centre and start of the shaft which results in a 10mm effective increase in the length of the prop assembly

There's no need with this to source from a Lotus parts supplier. Looks like a reasonably common Ford item to me. In fact it looks the same as the Escort TC yoke which in turn is the same as GT Cortina. If you could advise some basic dimensions I can compare and let you know.

I'm sure you're right but I'm guessing that Kelvedon are supplying all that's available be that for a Ford application or the Lotus one.

Sue Miller doesn't supply them other than second hand and I don't want to fit a second hand one to a new ?50 tailshaft bush so I'm off to Newcastle in the morning to have a cut, shut, and balance done on my prop given I must have the car back on the road by this weekend.
