Gearbox location/fitment Question

PostPost by: coffeeshopracer » Sun Aug 06, 2023 7:26 pm

I wanted to probe forum knowledge after fitting up the drivetrain in the chassis of my newly acquired project for the first time. After fitting the sandwich plate between the bellhousing and the engine, bolting up the engine mounts, I see the gearbox mount is off by about 1/2" and the propshaft seems more pulled out of the gearbox than i would have expected. Seems like the gearbox is too far forward. I have the standard ford mount with the spacers on the exhaust side and the Weber mount on the inlet side. Admittedly I don't know the origins of the gearbox(and it appears to have the shifter from a +2) but I'm at a loss as to why the mount doesn't line up. Any ideas before I modify the mount to fit?

Your gearbox seems to be sitting low. Do you have the spacers between the flexible gearbox mount and the crossmember?

Good catch, I do not have the spacers in yet. I understand those are about 1/2" thick. Also I have a standard 701m L block. Thanks
