differential gasket

The mating surface of the alloy differential case has been skimmed to tidy up a repair to the alloy. About 0.005" has been removed from the face. Is it necessary to fit a thicker gasket when reassembling?

Fit a thick composite type gasket like the original one, not the thin paper ones meant for live axle cars such as escorts and cortinas etc and you'll be fine.

While you have the diff housing on the bench you might want to convert from bolts to studs and nuts. Makes locating the gasket easier for one thing. Tony Thompson does them along with the gasket.
