Rvi Rev Counter And Aldon Ignitor

PostPost by: tdafforn » Wed Mar 30, 2005 7:05 pm

I've just finished fitting an Aldon ignitor electronic ignition to my +2. I had been told that the RVI rev counter shouldn't work and would need converting to RVC, so I disconected the counter from the coil.
Anyhow, fired the car up, and the rev counter works absolutely fine!
(very wierd as it is not connected  )
Anyone any ideas?
Cheers

How are you powering the electronic ignition unit? Is it the white wire from the ignition (which goes via the rev counter?
It seems to be a matter of luck as to whether RVI units work on electronic ignition units. I think it depends on the unit itself, the ignition coil and the 'condition' of the capacitors and transistors in the rev counter...

My rev counter did not work till I fitted the Aldon Ignitor. ;) It did not work with points???
I also changed the leads to Graphite core as my radio had huge interference.

I suspect alot of the bouncing Tach problems are due to RF pickup

I am powering the electronic ignition from the coil +ve circuit which is why I had to remove the rev counter wire (there weren't enough connections on the coil).
I also fitted resistive plugs at the same time..
Ah well I guess I should be happy as it saves the conversion costs!

Tim

The coil postive feed is what powers the std rev counters thats why it works. This feed runs through the rev counter and it senses the current pulses. Dont know what the wire is you removed. It may be the full voltage starting wire if your car has a ballast resister and coil system.

I checked the wire before I took it off, and it showed no voltage with the ignition off or on...
whereas the other showed 12v when the ignition was on..
Any ideas?

If it is the full voltage wire in a ballast-resistor system it will not show current with ignition on - only while the motor is being cranked.
