Twist & pull headlamp switch removal...

PostPost by: JJDraper » Thu Jun 16, 2005 5:15 pm

Can anyone enlighten me as to how to remove these switches from the dash?! I am stripping an old dash and this switch needs to have the knob removed to allow it to pass through the dash, but I can't see how to do it!! I am unwilling to just use brute force in case it breaks the plastic knob, which is in otherwise good condition.

PS it is the electric one rather than the vacuum one.

If it's like the Vacuum one, there's a hole in the knob that looks like it's for a grub screw. It's actually a spring loaded pip. Find a suitably small pointy thing and press the pip in and you should find the knob just slides off the end of the shaft.

I spent a while trying to drill this pip out as I thought it was a gnarled screw, thankfully pressure from the drill pushed it in before I'd done too much damage.

It works!! It needed a little squirt of WD40, but came apart in the end.

Many thanks
