should I change my rear lights?

I agree that the original rear lights are expensive to replace.
Has anyone tried sanding/filling/painting the chrome surround-you get some pretty good chrome paint from the model shops these days.
The mods required to fit those round lights can be reversed-but not easily in my opinion.
Lots of cutting back to remove the light contour and some holes to accomodate the new lights.Removal and recontour wil at least invole a respray of the back panel.
I'm looking at this from a future buyers point of view and would probably make your car less desirable .

Peter, nice photo's!
I'm thinking of getting a set of polished stainless letters made up to spell S P Y D E R I have a spare boot lid and it would be fun to change it over from time to time......
The Metier was parked on the ramp above my car at Spyder in early 2008 when they were both undergoing full rebuilds, the Metier to as near original as possible and my +2 as Spyderised as possible. It was fascinating to see the underside of the car and see the chassis and underbody, the chassis instead of being the usual plain folded metal looked to be handworked with the edges corrugated/fluted for extra strength and rigidity. People talk about the differences between the early +2 and the later cars, but I don't think there is a panel or piece of glass that is the same on the Metier as on any +2, but you can certainly see the DNA in the car. Malcolm Ricketts is a lucky man to be able to indulge his passion for Lotus cars, a true collector.

Nigel, I will have to do a Photoshop mock up and post it as the 'New Spyder ZETEC+2' in the Plus 2 forum.
That will be 1 nose badge, 6 letters on the boot, ZETEC +2 on the front wing badge and S185/5 on the rear wing badge. I could also do Jono's rear lights and maybe re-style the front a little with exposed rather than pop up headlamps as per the latest MX5 (Miata).
Love the badge graphics you did, but I would have to put it inside the Lotus triangle just to get a few people seething
Cheers

Cheesy!
I am now an ex-Elan owner but will drop by from time to time with some suitably inappropriate comments.
