ballast resistor

Did the Elan and Elan +2 include a ballast resistor from the factory?

When rewiring is it advisable to use a non-ballasted coil and "+" feed from IGN to coil?

Dont know too much about the +2's but my Sprint and S2 haven't got ballast resistors, I think only the very late cars have them (my JPS Europa had one) but with Lotus who knows?

The page in my workshop manual "Cold Start Ignition Coil" is dated 11 71.
My 71 Sprint had the solenoid with the extra connection for the ballast resistor but the coil had been replaced with a standard one when I bought it.
