Which Rev Limiter?

PostPost by: Steve G » Wed May 19, 2010 12:40 pm

I'm about to buy my all important rev limiter. I can't decide which one to get so I wouldn't mind getting some opinions on which to buy.

I have narrowed it down to these four but please feel free to recommend another if it can be obtained in the UK. If someone has one for sale new or nearly new then I would like to know about it.

I don't think I want shift lights or launch control, I don't think it suits the character of the car and I don't really want the unit on display either. I have Lumenition Optical ignition.

Steve
I have Lumenition electronic ignition so chose the Lumenition one. I bought through Susan Miller and she was able to specify the setting when ordering so it was factory set at 6500rpm, something I believe that has to be done trial and error normally. It was round about the same price as Demon Tweeks
My votes for Lumenition!

I got the Armtech coil-mounted one, and it seems to work fine with the Aldon ignitor.

You set it manually by holding and then releasing a button at exactly half the cut-out speed. So you need to have an accurate tach to set it. But it doesn't take up any space and doesn't require any holes to be drilled.

Terry,
sorry but you have made a mistake with your rev limiter. You have a Big Valve engine which should be set to 6750 rpm. 6500 is for all the other Twin Cams with small valves

Hi,

After some research, I fitted an Omex unit ( the Clubman single coil version).

This is preset to 4 cylinders Soft Cut and 6,000 rpm.

Soft/Hard Cut is easily changed. If Soft Cut is chosen, then engine power is gradually reduced
200 rpm before the set limit.

The rev limit is easily changed in +/- increments of 100 rpm.
Limits are 1,000 to 20,000 rpm for 4 cylinder engines.

I found out the hard way that there are one or two tricks to wiring these on fibreglass cars.

BTW I am using the Aldon Ignitor dizzy setup.

Regards,
Stuart.
