Good friends at National appear to have lost the car keys and immobiliser key while the +2 was in for fan belt adjustment, etc.
Will the ignition switch reveal the ref. no. for the key, once we've removed the dash?

National found the keys in the safe, thank the Lord. Now, though, battery not so good.
What's the correct specification battery for. 1969 +2S, please?

I believe the original battery was a type 037 with square bolt through terminals. My car has the more common battery post connections and a type 038 battery (classic mini battery which is the same apart from the terminals - presumably changed by a DPO). Uprating the battery seems to be a common change (with associated modifications to the boot floor to accommodate a larger battery) as the original battery is a bit weedy especially if the car hasn't been started for a while. Personally, I replaced the original battery when I got the car with a new 038 from Halfords and I've never had any problems starting the car (4 years).

Considering the fact the terminals might have been changed and/or a bigger battery fitted, your best bet is to look to see what you currently have and fit a similar battery...

Correction. I've had more than my fair share of issues but these haven't turned out to be the battery, but HT leads, coil, rotor, battery wires, poor earth connections and starter motor. Admittedly a bit more oomph from the battery wouldn't have gone amiss either, but not enough to go cutting the boot floor :)

There is a very nice bolt-in geared starter available, which cranks faster, using less electricity. My S3 has a very large battery mounted above the diff. (no fiberglass mods required) It has always started well in all conditions.
