Sandy, for sure someone made a bridge to solve some connection problem.
Maybe the previous owner had problems with the horn and did not know that at the joint there should be a cable for making ground,

Either way, you should check where the cable comes from and where it goes to.

were it a +2 and Black with brown trace it might be a low fuel warning light feed. which could be the right sort of location

were it brown with a trace colour, then if following Lucas guidelines, it could be an un-fused live,

[I'm aware yours doesn't have the extra wine space of a +2]

tx chaps - i opened this topic or AREA : it was the Purple and black cable cumin from the indicator dip switch
which turned light brown from purple via heat? (=horn, btw) ------------ tHIS entire loom RENEWAL/SWITCH which i'm tackling from scrap (too many shorts) is extremely time consuming if u never have done so or had a stupid CONTROL BOX (even sounds idiotic!!) and want 6 fuses plus 2 additional instruments. then u want better wiring for fan (30 amp) and additional maybe more light and a gas pump plus more dash info -------- whatever -----XXXX: some of us pure mech engineers can guess less: ...............so isn't mechanical engineering less ambivalent and like math or physics: unquestionable/provable ------ thomas edison waited for thunder storms .............. sandy, ya dig?
