About to test the heater motor before fitting the dashboard. How should the earth be installed? The manual says use the left hand chassis bobbin as an earth. I can do that ok, but what is the purpose of the insulated earth braided wire in the picture and what should the loose end attach to?

Yes I can confirm that it connects to the radio body and right hand chassis bolt.

The Heater earth is connected to the left hand chassis bolt.
I also made up a additional earth wire and connected it to the same chassis bolt, with the other end connected to the earth wire coming out of the (LH) Passenger door. This improved the speed of the Window motor.

The radio earth on my +2 is attached to the plate as shown on BBB's post, which is attached via the chassis mounts. The parts manual shows that plate as two separate parts, mine are welded together. I also have an additional plate to distribute heat to the footwell. Pictures I've seen + the parts manual suggest the distribution plate should be a fibreglass moulding - mine is a fabrication - I don't know if this was a previous Owner or a mid 68 shortage at the factory.
The extra earth idea is a good one, I think I'll add something like that in.. I'm also close to fitting the dash and electrical testing
