Thanks for that. After all I did with my Plus 2's heater, I was curious whether or not the smaller Elan used the same heater- it doesn't. And it looks like the fan motor doesn't have as close a space to fit in either.

Hi David,
Thanks for posting the link to your video. Videos like these are invaluable to people restoring their cars. Especially when years have passed between dismantling and putting back together.
One of the interesting things that I notice, is the orientation of the heater box side panels. There was some discussion, several years ago, as to whether the demister outlet tubes should be toward the front of the car or toward the rear (closer to dash panel) as yours are.
Your S4 is of the same vintage as mine, and my heater connections are as per your car.
Cheers, keep the videos coming,
Colin.

Thanks for the comments.

If you watched one of my first videos, all of this work started with removing the engine to change the water pump (which is still to be done) and be back on the road last July. As often is the case one thing leads to another...........

I just love the simplicity of these cars and they are such a joy to work on. Ok some jobs are fiddly and a swear box is handy.....(door latches) Which I need to do again.

The pics and videos are fun to do and provide a reference and, if I ever sell useful for the new owner to see whats been done.

This story is far from over...

My rule of thumb is that the swear box fills up twice as fast with reassembly than disassembly.

Great videos though - and some good piano playing as well

Interesting to see that the eye level vents come out of the heater box on the opposite side on my S3SE!

Here are some photos of when I refurb'd mine last summer.

Cleaned bearings and checked brushes

Back together with restored case metalwork

Notice the face vent outlets are at the "dash side" of the heater box.

Apparently the dash outlets were moved to the back later to give more room for the wiring.
Some owners have moved them during repairs also.

I just replaced the heater core and cleaned mine up too. The old heater core was leaking. The dash vents are in the back.

Hi Kyle,
Where did you buy the replacement heater core?
Cheers,

I found on this forum that it?s from an FX4 London Taxi. So I ordered one for that spec from eBay.uk. It came to the states quickly and was about $90 us.

Since then I found that the new Bucklands book confirms the taxi source.

Eric,
I did not know that. This forum is truly a mine of information.
Thanks.

Paul,
I think it is mentioned in Brian Buckland's book. The main source of accurate information.

I'm running about a week behind you - which is great for me!

Just got my Heater box out, although nowhere as lucky as you:

Full of leaves & pine needles

img_0207sm.jpg and
Fan blade removed

img_0204sm.jpg and
Rubber elbows beyond repair

img_0216sm.jpg and
Motor full of water & rust

After a strip down & rebuild we're up & running for the first time under my ownership:

Now to put her all back together again... :|
