horn S4

PostPost by: Ray419G » Sat Jul 15, 2023 8:28 pm

I have a late 68 S4, as far as I can tell the wheel, horn push and pencil are all original, at least I have never changed them and have owned the car since 82, (and they didn't look new then).
The plastic sleeve is 44mm long while the whole pencil measures 56mm long. I have attempted to attach a photograph of it.

So it’s the same size as mine, Ray. Good to know.

I've attempted a repair of my pencil with Araldite and Capton tape.

Seems to work smoothly, just off to see how well it fits in the steering wheel boss. The Capton is there to hold it while the glue dries, but if it still fits I will leave the stuff on as it is very strong.

(Edited to add, it fits perfectly! So that's £7 I won't be spending on a new horn...)

I measured the distance from the bottom of the pencil housing to the underside of the horn push. Mine measured at 54mm. This would be my compressed length.
