Oil Gauge Questions

1970 Plus 2, during my ownership has always had an electric oil pressure gauge.
Sometimes during the recent work being done on the car (clutch replacement etc.), the gauge stopped working and sender damaged during the work.
Ordered a new sender from RD Ent. Installed it and ran a new cable from sender to gauge.
Pulled gauge from dash and verified that the gauge has two white wires going in and one going out to the sender.
The wiring diagram says that one goes to the security switch in the glove compartment, which still works. The other heads to the rear window heater switch,
Neither cable goes near the voltage regulator.
On start the gauge works and pegs at max pressure.
My guess is that I have installed the wrong sender, is there a way to test this using my trusty multi-meter.
Could it be related to something else?
Thanks
