gauge faces -- what color?

Back with another restoration question, please. Are the gauge faces (speedo and tach, especially) on a 1972 S130 Federal supposed to be dark gray or black? It's hard to tell if they were originally dark gray, or if they were black and just faded to dark gray.

Thanks!

Black
They go grey with time, someone on here recently used baby oil to restore theirs, I used "back to black" bumper finish as a wipe.

Mine are grey, with the exception of the outside temperature gauge.

Mine are grey, except for the clock which was replaced a few years ago.

Baby oil, that was me. There are pictures on the thread I wrote about it.

Not sure how you?d restore a gauge by painting. How would you do the lettering and other legends?

isn't car wax supposed to remove -dead- paint? perhaps that or a finish restorer?
