Headlight vacuum switch

PostPost by: ChrisR » Sat Dec 03, 2022 4:22 pm

Good afternoon all,

I have an S3 with the original headlight vacuum switch still fitted.
Unfortunately some time ago the bezel on the knob came unscrewed and I have subsequently lost the little round image with the headlight on it, luckily I still have the perspex "window" .

I am wondering if some kind soul could please take a picture of it (reasonably square on) and post it (or send it to me) and I will either scale it down if it's clear or I will reproduce it on a drawing program and attempt to print it on something a bit shiny like the original.

This is by far the smallest of the jobs to do, but it's a rainy day here...

Many thanks,
Chris

It may have done! I don't have it anymore and I can't remember. It looks about right.

I did try looking for a picture of a dash on the internet but they were all too small to see.

If that is from that type of switch, it must be correct.

Thank you very much. Is it yours, would you be able to take a photo face on please?

Many thanks,

Chris

I believe steponit’s image is the correct one. Further I think the image is underneath the clear plastic bubble thing (or at least was originally) rather than on top.. Have you managed to get that out (had a number that were cloudy or damaged, I tried several times but never achieved it). If you have that I think you’d need to recreate the image and print it on something clear and somehow stick it back together.

Pictures of it disassembled would be interesting, never seen one.

That first image is great Eric. Wonder if these could be recreated on a similar medium as dashboard lettering and dry transferred?

Many thanks to everyone for all the info.

I must admit I didn't realise you could buy one, I hadn't looked as I still have all but the image. At about £60 inc tax etc I will try even harder to repair it! Though I would probably go with the triumph version if the one I had it was irreparable.

Thanks Eric, for the photos, I am sure I can do something with them. I have to find something clear to print on - or shiny silver. Should be able to find something like that at this time of the year

Steve, photo below. I think the threads are worn so the bezel comes off easily when you pull on it.

Fascinating, I’ve tried hard to undo the bezel part and never achieved it.

Print the image on this stuff

I didn't actually want it off, just happened :o

Thanks for the idea of the clear sheet, will order some and then try sticking it to foil.

Cheers
