Crank ID...

PostPost by: Midlife » Sun Dec 16, 2007 11:39 am

My crankshaft has 3020E on it, I can only find one topic on this site which says its a lotus 6 bolt crank. Can anyone confirm if its a 6 bolt or 4 bolt?

Cheers

3020 E is mk2 Cortina Lotus designation

see the following

http://www.classiccortina.co.nz/index.p ... =40&pid2=1

and

http://www.lotus-cortina.com/library/block/blocks.htm

a short quote from the above link

"(4) 681F 6015

The ?L? version of this block was the original fitment in MKII L/Cs and obviously takes the 3020E type b6 bolt L/C crank. Round main caps. Most will bore to 85mm if they have a low ?T? number. "

some will bore to 85mm with good offset boring ( may be 1 in 10) and T number seems to not relate to that

Slightly off topic, but I get very confused about the use of 83mm, 84mm & 85mm bore sizes, seemingly interchangeable with +20, +40 & + 60 oversizes!! My +2 block is +60, so I assumed that its on its last knockings, unless its resleeved (hardly worth it as one of the bellhousing eyes has snapped ). Is this the case? I have to say the rear waterways look very close to the fireband of the gasket with this level of oversize, and it has failed at this point on occasion!

Is there a rough & ready conversion between +10-60 oversizes and bore size in mm?

Thanks for the info... fits the bill, my engine is a rebuild with varying parts. As I have round end caps with a 3020E crank and a T2 block it sounds like the bottom end was from a cortina! (maybe?)

I will get to the bottom of all the differant parts one day. I have established that the reprofiled camshafts have a gross lift of 0.35 inch, so I just now need to work out the best timing...

Cheers
