This posting on Ebay is of passing interest, since the engine block that was sold came from the first early Elan to have the 3000 added to it's Unit Number, back in May 1963.

Certainly looks like a genuine early 120E block used by Lotus. if you have the Elan it first came in something you need to get !!! Provided it all stacks up on closer examination
cheers

Thought you might find it interesting, Rohan!

I suspect the Elan is long gone now. It was first sold to an English chap in component form, as many of the earliest cars were.

?58 indeed..

As a matter of interest, how important is a matching numbers car (engine/head/body)? I will have to make a decision as to sleeving my old block or something else some time.. not much meat on the block at +60..

I own this block. If anyone needs any info on it I'd be happy to help.

Cheers. It'll wait for its turn for me to do something with it, have got an early head to go on top of it.
