Engine block ID

Hi All,

I'm reading through Paul Robinshaw and Christopher Ross's Elan book and came across FIGURE 8: BLOCK IDENTIFICATION
It states my engine block number 3020-6015 as being an early Mk2 block with round main bearing caps and no large L embossed in casting on inlet side.

My 3020E6015 block has a large L cast into it.

I am told the block will have come from a cortina engine.

Does this tie up please?

Regards,

Mark.

Mark, I have no record of any Elan having been fitted with Engine No 12391LBA. It comes from mid-late 1968. This period is one where the records are not entirely complete, so it is possible that the engine was first fitted to an Elan and we just don't have a record of it.

It was a rather odd period judging by the records. At the same time as 12### series engines were being used, so too were 16### series!

Thanks Tim,

The VIN plate does not have an engine number stamped on it either - so wherever the engine came from will never be fully known. It has been fully rebuilt and is unused at the moment, as is all the mechanical parts of the car. I am currently refurbishing the GRP body (it is at the painters at the moment).
I hope to get the car assembled enough before the new year to get it fired-up & then get it to someone to properly sort out the steering and suspension set-ups. :D

Regards,

Mark.
