Temperature sender- adapter in head.

PostPost by: Lotus54 » Sun Feb 18, 2024 7:50 pm

I was replacing the heater valve. To get the new one in (old one had broken hose connection, so shorter) I had to remove the temp sender and the adapter that goes in head.
Of course, it broke…

Next I have to get the leftover piece out (head is on car)- anyone know the size of this fitting?

Ideas on removal? (I have some, but always open to others)

Thanks
Mark

I went out to see what I could do. Ends up it was not broken at all- just the wrong part. There was bunch of sealer or something and a very short threaded part, with threads for temp sender on other end.

It appears to be 5/8” pipe (like other port, for heater)- and I think the temp sender is 5/8” x 20. (I will verify).

Glad I took it off, I would hate to have it come loose when driving!

Heater and temp sensor fittings on mine are 3/8 BSPT.

The head thread is straight 3/8 BSP for both heater and temp sender. The heater valve is 3/8 BSPT (taper), the temp sender adpater I am not sure originaly whether straight or taper into the head but it was very short and only about 4 threads long so makes no real difference if straight or taper. It orginally used an aluminium washer so was probably straight. What you have now depends if its been modified.

See my long topic:

There is a lot about the temperature gauge adaptor, starting on page 2.

Thanks all.
I have ordered the proper adapter from one of the ‘usual suspects’.

looking up the BSP thread info, I can see why I mistook for NPT. They are quite close (I think they both have 60º angle, rather than the 55º for Whitworth?)

I still have a number of other things I’m doing, so can wait for it to arrive. I am aiming for late March early April to have it on the road again.
