Zetec Oil Filters... Are They Ok?

PostPost by: greg.harvey » Sun Sep 05, 2004 12:21 pm

Hi there,

Been looking at a Ford Zetec oil filter for my mum's late Ford Escort, and it appears that it would fit a Lotus Twin Cam just fine. Anyone tried this? Would it be ok? We would've thought it would be better than the old Ford filters...

Cheers,

G

Have'nt tried that but I use VW Golf/Passat(rabbit?) filters on my T.C.'s they have the anti syphon valve inside, Frams etc did'nt use to have the valve but I think they do now.

Since the threads and gasket diameter on the twincam are ford standard it may well work. I tried an FL1A, but the outer diameter of the filter was too large and hit the engine block.

Pretty much any filter brand that part that crosses to a Fram 2870 will work, and there are lots of options out there now. Even fram has 3 different quality filters for the TwinCam.

It is nice today where in the US the filter manufacturer use same SAE test and list the first and second pass results on the box, so you can pick a good filter.

I have used the oil filter from a UK ford mondeo (rabbit in the states?) for many years in my twink. Just check the non return valve is there.
