Door check straps

PostPost by: pptom » Tue Jun 11, 2019 6:17 am

I've got the spring loaded brackets, just need the actual straps. I know they are rover p6 and rocking horse poo and i'd rather make some out of stainless anyway.
Problem is i have nothing to copy and very few pictures online.
Can someone please measure the length of the strap which determines the door open position?
Also, i've never seen how they attach to the door bracket. I know it runs along a channel and is 'caught' by the spring clip, but does anyone have a pic of the lug on the arm which runs in the channel please?
Thanks
Tom

Hopefully these may help.

Check strap channel and lug (O/S)

Seems it is quite difficult to get a picture of the lug as it is obscured by the strap.

Attempt to measure strap length

The measurement shows as 14.5cm but it is in fact 30.5-14.5cm as I had to orient the ruler with the end towards the sill. So that gives a strap measurement of ~16cm, measured tip to tip (not hole to hole). The holes are about 1cm in from the tips of the strap, so if you fabricate accordingly you should get a reasonable result.

Just thought i'd update. Finished making and fitted them tonight. Only small problem was that i didn't have any stainless in a decent thickness for the bars. Ended up stitching 2 pieces of 1.6mm together.
Anyway, they fit the runners and work a treat. I can stop worrying about my doors ripping the hinges out now!
Thanks again to Jons measurements and Eds end shots
