Lotus Elan

S2 complete windshield, frame, brace etc.

PostPost by: Kowalken1 » Sun Dec 15, 2019 2:19 am

I am putting an S2 back on the road after 44 years. I purchased in bits but sadly without a windshield.
I am looking for all the bits I need to remedy this fault

Assuming successful fitment of new parts I should have what you need as surplus some months from now. Wish I could be more specific. JOhn

I have a new, never installed windshield frame i would sell for half of new, whatever that is. You would probably want to pick it up as boxing and shipping would be a bit expensive. I'm near Omaha, NE, so not terribly far from you.

I would ensure that your windscreen fits whichever surround you purchase. That may sound a given, but it's not.
I have a new TTR heated screen and new TTR surround. It took several hours of re-glassing the surround to accommodate the bottom corners of the screen which flare out by at least 10mm beyond the surround.

Thank you for the information.
I’m sure it will be a typical trial fit / repeat Lotus operation.

I think it is probably best for you to find a second hand frame in the US and to buy a Pilkington screen.

I would like to second Graeme's response: TTR are trying to improve both the heated screen and their screen mouldings at present. If you try the current TTR screen with an original frame there is roughly a 25mm problem on each side.

Thank you. One member has offered a new frame and it is within a day’s drive. There is another who may be able to relinquish his entire setup. That may be a while so we will have to see how patient I am. Much longer drive though

Looks brilliant. I am doing the same with an s2. Nearly finished now :D
Keep up the good work, I look forward to seeing the finished car, what colour are you going for?

The color is pretty much Ferrari red with yellow accents. That’s what the girlfriend has asked for. The body is painted as well as the chassis.

That will look nice. I saw one at a hill climb once that was red with norfolk mustard yellow bumpers, it looked really cool!

I noticed that your chassis/subframe  does not have the lower engine cross brace fitted, I presume you know it should have one and you probably have it somewhere else but just in case...……..
