Weber Starting Device Modification

Hi There,

Been stripping the Webers and reading a bit in books and net (good resource at http://www.teglerizer.com/dcoe/rasorcom.htm) and it seems to be generally accepted that the Starting Device mechanism / choke on the webers is not required and can cause more problems than it is worth. On my carbs it looks like the previous owner has somehow permanently seated the starter valve / piston on its seat so that no air /fuel can flow past it, into the carb throats below the throttle. I can't (with reasonable force) remove the pistons, so I guess the modification is adequate and may as well leave as is.

Furthermore, one of the starter jets has proven impossible to remove. Screwdriver slot has already been damaged. I haven't applied any heat to the body, but given that the starter circuit has been effectively plugged up, I can't see any need to remove this jet.

Have others made this modification and does it sound like I should leave it the way it is ?

I removed the choke lever case attached with 2 fine screws and cleaned them up with carb cleaner ----made no difference the levers just moved easier--made me feel better-- my carbs came from an Alfa 1750 ed
