Sealing Stromberg Balance Pipe

PostPost by: terryp » Fri Apr 06, 2018 6:40 am

Hello
Finally mangaed to get the UK spec adpater flanges to replace my federal spec. Unfortunately they did not come with the balance tube which seems to be 1" OD tube
Was the original sealed with o rings or can I seal with good RTV or something else?
Thanks
Terry

Hi Terry,
"O" rings. Take a trip to your local "Auto Distribution" with the parts and they will find "O" rings that fit.

The OD of the pipe is less than 1" to allow for the O ring ( mine measures 22.4 mm ) and there is a small flange near either end to retain the O ring in the recess in the adaptor block. It's shown in the parts list here .. http://www.lotuselan.net/wiki/EK_-_Engi ... y_Throttle
You could possibly make up something suitable using 22mm copper plumbing pipe with compression olives soldered on to make the flanges.

Great managed to get 22.2mm mild steel and 2mm diameter O rings for ?5 post free.
Will solder some olives on to make the stop. I may end flaten one side.

Thanks again
