How do 151s compare? Mine are Spanish built with bolt heads and nuts protruding from the butterfly fixings unlike the 18s and 31s I had had.

I modified the jets on my 31s as they were running so rich the car started misfiring and the 151s prefer those modified jets rather than the standard issue. They've now done 63,000 miles in nearly 20 years (1 penny per mile)!

I cut a section of these small coil springs to replace the leaf spring. Seems to be working ok.

seniorchristo, thats similar to the Keith Francks method i ended up using.

I agree though, i spent some time polishing the flat on the Venturi and the mating surface inside the carb, then fitted the loop of spring a la Franck's method inside the P which stopped the neat fuel taking the paint off the air box...... Ironically the vapor blasting had taken the corrosion out of the pits making the leak worse.

Forty year old Webers are great fun at the best of times but most of the issues can be read about on Mr Francks yahoo messenger sidedraft_central

I will send half a spring to anyone that wants one until they are almost gone. :)

Keith's fixit for the loose auxiliary venturi came several years after I expanded the "P" section of the spring clip and inserted the rubber disc in the loop. I would guess either would help the sealing issue of the aux venturi to the carb body. I currently have 2 sets of series 18 and 1 set of 31s on the bench that I am rebuilding. All the carb bodies have a boss in the carb body, same as the 45, that could be drilled and tapped for 45 style grub screws. Giving that some thought as it would give a much more secure method of retaining the auxiliary venturi, similar to the Dellorto carbs.
