Carb Soft-mount O-ring betterment.

PostPost by: Brock » Fri Mar 04, 2022 12:23 am

Hi All,

I'm hoping this is relevant to some of you.

The o-rings of my Weber soft-mounts were pretty hard, so I sourced softer silicone o-rings that I'm digging.

Typical buna-n black rubber o-rings are 70 durometer, I think. These are 50.

They're more challenging to install because they're not round, but the sense-of-accomplishment factor is higher.

Shipping time was 10 days.

Silicone O rings and most Silicone RTV products are not generally recommended in a gasoline environment. I use Viton O rings for my Coventry Climax and Lotus Twin Cam applications. Might be old school, but has worked fine for 45+ years. Cheers. Mike.

Well don't I feel silly. I acted on some bad information. Thanks.

I made a fuel cap gasket for my chipper out of silicone sheet six years ago and it's still as new... But I won't tempt fate. (addendum: I just checked the gasket... It looked fine, but I pulled it out and it broke in half. Thanks again Mike. Coulda been bad).
